The word Danya translates to “Spirit’s Gift”. This was the name given to the first child of a spirit and a human. The original Danya wanted to live among the humans but was rejected by them.
In more recent times, a Danya is any child of a human and a spirit. They have long lifespans and a natural curiosity dampered by difficulty focusing. They are frequently childlike in mannerism and are very well suited as tinkerers and explorers.
Neither spirits nor humans recognize Danyai (the plural of Danya) as being of them, causing the Danyai to be isolated from society. When Danyai find each other they sometimes form communities, but their explosive tempers at clashes of ideas mean Danyai are more likely to live and work alone, interacting with others as infrequently as possible.
